Translated by Translators For Justice
Greetings to all of our sisters and brothers in resistance. Greetings to fellow revolutionaries!
Today, as always, we are united against oppression, we shout as a single voice with many different colours. We are here because in the last year alone, as many as 18 transgender individuals fell victim to hate crime.
We are here because transgender people have been denied their basic right to reside and to work, their homes red-tagged, especially at the Meis development complex and at Bayram Street.
We are here because gay and transgender individuals have been kidnapped by their families.
We are here because of transphobia, which forces transgender women into the sex industry…
The government barons!
You have been trying to ignite unrest with all kinds of fascist and separatist ideologies, including peer pressure, racism and sexism. The society, however, has frustrated your dirty plans through the Gezi Park resistance. They gave wonderful examples of fraternity and solidarity before the whole world during the last month… We bore witness to the possibility of creating a free and egalitarian community, right then and there, away from your police, away from the pressure of your plainclothes police and away from your filthy, hate-mongering media. Sorry, we have had a taste of freedom and are not giving up our hopes now.
We cannot be so naïve as to expect the oppressors to act within justice and reason. Essentially, we would like to call out to the people. As the people of this country, we refuse to be doomed to bloodshed, oppression and murder, and in a twist of fate, we have turned parks, streets and squares into democratic forums… We have realized the hopes of the Middle East, which have been paralyzed under despotism. And we declare ourselves sisters and brothers…
It has been a long struggle for peace and unity, so let us not break apart any more… Let us turn our faces to each other and really start listening to each other. The fraternity at Gezi helped us make great gains, and we may have even greater gains if we continue as sisters and brothers.
In short, this glorious resistance, this festive chaos of the last month has shown us from the very beginning that we are on the right track. As we did yesterday, we will continue to resist and to hope as well. We will repeat our demands at courthouses and police stations every single day!
We, the black sheep of society, will bring the days when we will sing songs of freedom with all the black sheep of the world!
Rest assured, the world would never be the same if the transgender were free.
The freedom of transgender individuals will set the society free!
Long live the fraternity of Gezi Park, long live the fraternity of parks!
